The Department of Physics has been established in the year 2009, some 04 years after the establishment of Govt. Degree College Bandipora (Estb. 2005).Teaching at the Graduate Level in the Physics Department commenced in 2010 to meet the aspirations of the physics students of this region. The department offers U.G. Courses in Physics and is affiliated to the University of Kashmir, Srinagar. The department has grown enormously in terms of enrolment and attained self-sufficiency in terms of facilities required in the labs for conducting the lab course smoothly. It was established to train the students desirous of learning, understanding, teaching and practicing various aspects of physics. Courses were designed to take care of both the classical and contemporary aspects of Physics. What makes the Physics experience at Govt. Degree College Bandipora special, over and above the syllabus, are: the dedication of its teachers, the quality of its students, and the unique atmosphere of the college.

Message
The mission of the Physics Department is to prepare students for careers as software professionals and for advanced studies in Computer Applications. Our program combines strong fundamentals, project and team-oriented activities, and soft skills, leading to a well-rounded professional education. The department emphasizes value-based quality education in Computer Applications and the curriculum reflects the depth and width of computer applications. Computer Science has contributed a lot to society and has made life comfortable. Presently, the department is acting as a backbone for the college as all the technical work is done under the supervision of the department.

Facilities
The Classroom is designed with an IT environment and equipped with a SmartBoard. There are two computer labs in the departments. Each lab is equipped with a number of new desktops along with LCD monitors and updated software. The labs have their own UPS and backup power support. There is rich support of books in the departmental library. A number of new editions of books have been added to the library.
